Radio Industry Blogger Phyllis Stark reviews LDR in Radio-Info.com's Stark Country

Respected country radio blogger Phyllis Stark reviews LDR in this week's Stark Country.

She wrote: A cool new service called Listener Driven Radio (LDR) has been making inroads at other formats for the past year, and is finally getting a foothold in country as well. Last month, LDR added Clear Channel’s WUBL (94.9 The Bull) Atlanta as its second country affiliate, joining Peak Broadcasting’s KAWO (WOW 104.3) Boise, Idaho.

LDR uses innovative audio programming software to let the station’s audience pick songs that play through the hour. Listeners can access a radio station’s playlist via a mobile device or the station’s Web site and vote for their favorite songs, or give a thumbs down to songs they dislike. The platform then automatically e-mails and instant messages listeners who opt in, informing them when their favorite track plays on the air and potentially impacting PPM results. Listener votes can affect the station’s music in real time, while the service drives traffic to the station’s site.

“The Bull puts you in control of our music,” is how WUBL positions the service it calls “Bull Tunes On Demand.” The station’s Web site copy reads: “You pick the song online and we play it on the air.” In an LDR press release, new WUBL PD Dan Persigehl called it “a ground-breaking way to do country radio.”

In addition to the two country stations, LDR is being used by WAXQ New York, WISX Philadelphia, and a total of 22 major and medium market affiliates, with more than 40 total affiliates in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
